About four doors down … how about some gossip today? I was once told that a good gossip should start with “I think x is a lovely person, but …” so I am not sure if what I am about to say can be classified as gossip, I don’t really know the people involved and because of my prosopagnosia, I wouldn’t recognise them either. I have looked up the definition of ‘gossip’: “casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true”. If we go by this definition, then what I am about to tell you can be regarded as gossip even if it’s not very interesting. Here goes:
The alarm in the house four doors down has been going off every two or three hours for 15 minutes each time for the last four days. There is nobody home and nobody has their keys or a number to contact them. The noise wakes us up at night but the relief we get after 15 minutes when the alarm stops is pleasant. I feel sorry for their next door neighbours as it must be unbearable for them; I remember looking out of the window on the first night it happened and I saw their neighbour in her her dressing gown outside on the road, despairing. I feel sorry for the people who will eventually come back home and will be hated by half the street. Also, I think that burglar alarms are useless. It’s possible that on December 22nd, the house was burgled but if that was the case, the alarm was useless. And if they tried to go and celebrate Christmas with family and broken lockdown or tier 3 or 4 rules (I am not implying they have, I am just suggesting the possibility) then the alarm going off has highlighted this possibility.
