ONE SELF PORTRAIT EVERY DAY in 2020 : 306

I am still in possession of a dictionary of French slang (dictionnaire du français argotique et populaire) which I remember being fascinated by as a kid. It was published in 1977 and I imagine it was gifted to my parents.

I must have been around 10 and I imagine I liked the fact that it was in some way against the rules and some words pretty naughty. Flicking through it now I am finding the language beautifully poetic. 

Here I’m holding the book at the spread I probably considered to be the naughtiest. I imagine that many of these words are not in use anymore and that many of the people who spoke them are not with us anymore.

artiste n. m. Fantasiste, peu sérieux dans le travail. I like the fact that you called someone an artist to mean a fantasist, or someone who is not serious at work.
