ONE SELF PORTRAIT EVERY DAY in 2020 : 135

Traces. I have always (OK often) found the traces left behind by works of art more interesting than the works themselves. I am always collecting art droppings, these are reminders of art experienced. I like the fact that these are most of the time they are valuable memories but worthless. The gravel I am holding in my hands today is the gravel I “stole” from a Chris Burden work.
“The Flying Steamroller” was installed on the Parade Ground at Chelsea College of Art in 2006. We had just finished our MA shows and this piece brutally covered half of Janko’s Tennis court piece.

It was also Janko who filmed me collecting the pieces go gravel:

In that video I am wearing a coat I really liked and I’m not sure what happened to it. I remember buying it from Muji at a greatly reduced price (I seem to remember it was £10) and I felt good in it. People often took me for a parking attendant or a guardian of some kind, people used to let me through wherever. I remember once in Campagnano di Roma, a person came up to me and asked if it was OK if he double parked his car just for a couple of minutes. I told him that I thought it would be fine. It then dawned on me that he mistook me for a parking attendant.
