ONE SELF PORTRAIT EVERY DAY in 2020 : 332
Hakija is doing my head in. So I pick a word at random from a book. What book? Any book. I picked this book. I remember buying this book in Sarajevo, Hakija took me to the shop. On the front end-paper, written in pencil it says “1) 97-98” (which is probably the year as it was when I met up with Hakija) and then below, “40.00” which was the price (40KM). The currency in Bosnia is Konvertibilna Marka which replaced the Bosnia and Herzegovina dinar, Croatian kuna and Republika Srpska dinar as the single currency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1998, was pegged to the Deutsche Mark which was replaced by the Euro in 1999 with this exchange rate: DM 1.95583 = €1. I love the fact that the currency in Bosnia is pegged to a currency that doesn’t exist any more. The word I picked at random was “nepribježište”, I am not sure I understand what it means (even after reading the definition) so I searched for one of my favourite Bosnian words “ćenifa: zahod, nužnik”. I learnt it in Gašinci and it’s from Turkish origin.
