I AM STILL ALIVE 12.9.2020
ONE SELF PORTRAIT EVERY DAY in 2020 : 256
I have two drawers with approx. 80 miniDV video tapes with stuff I recorded between 2005 and 2008 but no camera (until today) to view them. There are plenty of tapes of Klara, the videos of me cycling into the canal in Amsterdam (and the test run in the Serpentine), an interview with Shirley Hughes, a conversation between Marcus Verhagen and Brian, A video of a cabaret night at the Colony Rooms when I threw a bucket of water at Brian, having coffee with Bruce McLean. Tapes of the two Susak Expo trips in 2006, the time I put my publications in Tate Modern, Janko chucking a bucket of water in my face in front of Tate Britain, Me chucking a bucket of water at Dawn in a dodgy road in Hackney at night, conversations with John Hughes, a performance Salon at Chelsea, a video of Socrates the football player (I filmed the conversation with Canons 5Ds but must have taken extra footage with a miniDV camera), Rex Garrod, interviewing Anthony Horowitz, a tape labelled “Bruce & Allan” and many more. I decided to buy a DV camera on eBay so that I can digitise them. I managed to get a Canon XM2E for £32. This is a camera that I had used in the past because David Lloyd had one and he used to lend it to me. I think that that camera cost £3000 at the time. Anyway, it arrived today and it works. I can see the videos and it’s a weird feeling to see 2005. Unfortunately when I tried to connect it to a computer, I can’t see the camera. I still had a DV Firewire cable and an adaptor to link it to my Mac but it’s not working. I’m hoping that it’s a faulty cable so I have ordered one on Amazon, should get it tomorrow.
